Engage, Entertain and Foster a Great Classroom Experience

Associate Professor Joe Redden, who taught Marketing Management, is an exceptional communicator and an extremely engaging speaker. He led me to appreciate how valuable marketing is in business. He also structured the class to include engaging assignments that simulated how marketing decisions are made in the real world. I showed up to every class excited to hear what Redden had to say.” – Audrey Klein, University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management

University of Toronto's Doug Hyatt

My favourite professor is Doug Hyatt. He is hilarious, with a really nice sense of humour … he ran a craft beer company at the same time he was as academic director of professional MBA programs at the Rotman School. He was able to explain complicated concepts in micro- and macroeconomics in a fun and interesting way, and mostly ready to use in our daily operations.” – Miguel Jimenez, University of Toronto, Rotman School of Management

Susan Crosson, Accounting. Incredibly, Professor Crosson made accounting fun, interesting, and accessible. Always enthusiastic and energetic, she brought the classroom to life with her quick wit and kind demeanor. She is an expert in her field, and I continue to refer to her widely acclaimed instructional YouTube videos. She encouraged us to challenge ourselves in a totally new area of study, graciously redirecting our novice mistakes.” – Isabel Lowell, Emory University, Goizueta Business School

“’Dr. J (Jeff Rosensweig), Macroeconomics. Dr. J’s course did an outstanding job of bringing in concepts from several other classes and leveraged real-time events to give the class a clear understanding of how topics from our cases and text translate to real life. Dr. J has an excitement in the classroom about economics that is oddly contagious. From the first minute of the first session with him, he packed in as much learning as possible in our time together. It was really cool to see how excited he would get about things most of us in the class never really spent much time thinking about. Topics like the jobs report suddenly became dinner conversation material for most of us because of Dr. J’s passion for his ‘doughnut ratio,’ or the true employment figure. His class was challenging and time-consuming, but one from which I will carry the concepts for a long time. He spent about half of the semester giving us perspectives on what drives macroeconomic trends.  The second half, we were able to conduct an in depth study of a topic of our own choosing (my team looked at the impact of NAFTA on North American trade and GDP).  Each team then gave a formal presentation to members of the faculty and our classmates.” – Patrick Henson, Emory University, Goizueta Business School

University of Virginia's Liz Demers

“That is a very hard question! But I will choose Liz Demers. She taught us accounting. She was very organized, prepared, and knowledgeable. I would assume that accounting is not an easy class to make entertaining, but she managed to do it. She was witty and fun as she explained to us, real-world problems as they related to accounting. There is nothing more enjoyable as a student than to see a professor love what she does and be excited about her subject. Liz wanted to us to learn and was patient enough to go through the material at a pace that was fair for the class. I remember listening to my first quarter call at Univision and emailing her about it. I was excited because thanks to her class (and some finance), I had understood most of what was going on in the conversation. She was genuinely happy to hear from me and know that she had made a difference in my understanding of accounting.” – Mayra Rocha, University of Virginia, Darden School of Business

“Strategic Management & Entrepreneurship Professor Aks Zaheer’s strategy course was an amazing combination of teaching style with learning integration. The lectures, cases, and assignments have been inimitable to me. His passion with a purpose created a rich environment to learn and explore.” – Jarred Roy, University of Minnesota, Carlson School of Management

Helio Fred Garcia from Crisis Management. He is an excellent communicator, very well prepared for each one of his classes, and he’s able to make the course interactive and engaging.” – Manny Moquete, New York University, Stern School of Business
