Georgia Tech Scheller Launches Global Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification

Executives pursuing the popular Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification at Georgia Tech’s Scheller College of Business can now take their experience global.

Scheller has added an option to travel to Panama to work with Georgia Tech alumni on a real-world business problem at a local company. The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt: Certification Project in Panama is available to students beginning this fall. Scheller describes it as a “first of its kind immersive project” for such a certificate.

WHY PANAMA?

Scheller Business School has offered Green Belt certification courses to executives for more than a decade. Courses teach problem solving and efficiency practices to professionals from any industry, working through DMAIC principles: Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control.

Courses are delivered through live virtual sessions alongside asynchronous assignments. Students traditionally applied their learning to a process improvement project for their own organizations to earn the certificate. In lieu of that final project, executives can now choose to travel to Panama to work with alumni at Empresas Bern, a real estate company in the country.

During the weeklong immersion, participants will network with Georgia Tech alumni and local business leaders, visit cultural sites, and tour local companies to understand Panama’s role as a global logistics hub. This international business exposure is a key differentiator for the Scheller Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program.

Home to the Panama Canal, one of the world’s most critical trade routes, Panama is a hub for logistics, finance, and commerce. The country’s growing economy and position as a gateway between the Americas offers a unique vantage point to observe and engage with real-world business challenges, particularly in industries that rely heavily on process optimization and efficiency.

“We’re thrilled to expand Scheller’s Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program and offer professionals the opportunity to work directly with a global company to gain invaluable hands-on experience,” said Bob Myers, faculty director of Lean Six Sigma programs.

“The program solves the challenge that many students encounter – They never receive their Green Belt certificate because they haven’t completed the project component. This immersive experience not only enhances their skills but also broadens their global perspective, making it a truly transformative experience.”
