Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business announced earlier this week the next innovation in its Evening MBA program, dubbing it the Flex MBA. While the curriculum will remain the exact same, some courses will now be offered on Saturdays, other electives will be offered in a hybrid format where on-campus sessions will be replaced with virtual ones, and students will henceforth be able to complete the program in as little as 28 months or as long as five years. Overall, the school said in an announcement of the program changes, the idea is to not dissuade students because of a rigid format.
“At Georgetown, we value cura personalis, or care for the whole person. It’s important to us that students can concurrently gain an education, advance their careers, and remain connected to family and friends,” Prashant Malaviya, senior associate dean for MBA programs, said in a release from the school. “There is more than one way to successfully deliver an MBA program. By adding flexibility to our MBA format while retaining our close-knit cohort community, high-quality education, and signature learning experiences, we ensure that our students co-create the program that is the right fit for them.”
The Flex MBA will officially take place with the fall 2019 cohort. According to the school, the cohort format will remain the same and everything in the curriculum — from the foundational Structure of Global Industries course to the capstone Global Business Experience consulting project — will be the same, too. Cohorts are around 55 to 65 students.
A CONTINUATION OF TOP-RANKED PROGRAMS
“Our new Flex MBA is a reflection of market research and feedback we’ve received from prospective students,” Shelly Heinrich, interim associate dean for MBA Admissions, also said in the release from the school. “The need for greater flexibility often comes from work responsibilities that vary in intensity through the year, impending military deployments or changes in duty station, the desire to complete a degree while balancing demands of raising a family, and budget constraints. The Flex MBA meets these needs so our students can focus on what’s most important to them.”
Launched in 2005, the part-time Evening MBA at Georgetown McDonough has consistently ranked toward the top of most reputable rankings. Featuring the same curriculum and professors as its full-time MBA program, Georgetown McDonough’s Evening MBA was ranked fourth in the U.S. in the 2015 Bloomberg Businessweek ranking. The school says the degree awarded for the Evening and Flex MBAs are equivalent to the full-time MBA program.
Application deadlines for the fall 2019 intake are October 9, 2018; January 7, 2019; April 1, 2019; and May 1, 2019.
