Henry Mintzberg’s Un-MBA Management Program

IT DOESN’T COME CHEAP

Unsurprisingly, going to so many countries gets expensive. IMPM’s tuition is $60,000, which initially makes it look less costly than the top three U.S. EMBA programs, where yearly tuition is around $56,000 to $57,000 and the full-time programs last 21 or 22 months. Still, travel and accommodations cost an additional $20,000.

Hall didn’t have to take on any debt to complete the program, but would she advise someone with fewer resources to go? “I already see how it’s paying off in my company,” she says, but she notes that it really depends on the individual’s goal. Doing it to put it on your resume doesn’t really make sense. If you’re interested in global business, though, it can be a powerful learning experience and networking opportunity—a better one than an MBA would provide, Hall claims.

Her 16 months have ended, but Hall and her classmates have kept IMPM going in their own way. Last December, 13 of them met up in the United Kingdom to do a mini-module on restructuring outsourcing, and ethics. The plan for 2016 is to get together in Spain. As far as professional development goes, there are definitely worse places to be.
